Home Office offers £135k for new CISO
The department is offering a six-figure salary for a security leader to roll out a dedicated cyber strategy, as well as the implementation of wider business processes, guidelines and standards
The Home Office is offering a six-figure salary for a new chief information security officer to spearhead cyber programmes and professionals across the department.
The successful candidate, who will sit at the head of a team of 150 people, will oversee all cyber operations throughout the organisation and serve as “the department’s advisor for cyber risk within its own business operations and be responsible for bringing together the department’s approach to its own cyber and information security”, the job advert says.
Key duties will include leading the rollout of a dedicated “department cybersecurity strategy”, as well as implementing a wider “enterprise strategy, approach, and processes to reduce information security risks” faced by the department.
These measures will include “standards, controls and policies to protect information assets and technologies across the Home Office family”.

Other responsibilities of the CISO role will include an expectation to “maintain the department’s security assurance strategy” while also undertaking work to “drive beneficial security change into the business”. Such change can be achieved “through the development or review of architectures and attendance/guidance to governance boards” across the department, according to the job ad.
This guidance will form part of a broader remit to “work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders across the Home Office and wider government, to design, deliver and run the central cyber security protective monitoring capability and standards” operated by the department.
Applications for the position are open until midday on 26 August, and the process is being run by Global Resourcing – a specialist recruitment agency which focuses on public and third sector digital and data roles.
The Home Office CISO post sits at deputy director level and comes with an annual salary of between £115,000 and £135,000.
The advert adds: “Your work will play a crucial role in the security of one of the major bastions of our society and ensure that you are recognised as a leader in your field at the highest levels within both government and the cyber and information security industry.”
